Premium Battery Cabinet: Professional model in accordance with VDMA 24994

The Premium Battery Cabinet LaCont offers maximum safety for the active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries (rechargeable batteries). Wherever high-energy batteries are charged or stored on an industrial scale, standard fire protection is often no longer sufficient. This is precisely where our premium model comes into its own. It has been specially designed in accordance with the VDMA 24994 test standard to protect against Thermal Runaway (thermal runaway) has been tested inside the cabinet. With a total energy capacity of up to 8 kWh and an integrated pressure relief system, it offers maximum protection for your operations and reliably prevents the escape of flames, projectiles and fragments in the event of a failure.

Aerosol fire-extinguishing generator: The optional integrated aerosol extinguishing generator activates automatically in the event of a critical rise in temperature or a fire. The extinguishing aerosol fills the interior in a matter of seconds, effectively suppressing the flames and preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring batteries

Integrated control unit with optical status indicator: If a fire is detected inside the cabinet, the power supply and the integrated ventilation system are switched off completely. A clearly visible indicator on the outside of the cabinet allows you to see the current operating status (e.g. normal operation, fault or alarm) at a glance at any time, without having to open the cabinet.

Built-in smoke detector: The integrated control unit constantly monitors the interior of the battery cabinet. As soon as the highly sensitive smoke detector detects the first signs of gas or smoke, the system triggers an alarm and can immediately relay the signal to the building management system

Height-adjustable shelves: The sturdy shelving levels can be flexibly adjusted in height. With a load capacity of up to 75 kg per level, they offer sufficient stability even for heavy industrial batteries

Power strip: The power strip installed in the cabinet enables the organised and safe charging of several lithium-ion batteries at the same time. It ensures a neat power supply directly to the storage levels

Can be accessed with a pallet truck: Thanks to its 100 mm high, wheelchair-accessible plinth, the fireproof cabinet can be transported using a pallet truck or forklift truck. The plinth panel can be removed without tools

This protects your staff, prevents the fire from spreading to the building and gives the emergency services valuable time to respond. As our security cabinets are developed and manufactured in Germany, we guarantee that (BasicSafe Pro and Premium) the highest manufacturing quality, safety in accordance with standards and maximum reliability in day-to-day industrial use.

Our premium model has also been successfully certified to the new standard VDMA 24994:2024-08 realistic battery fires (Thermal Runaway) checked. The VDMA Standard Sheet 24994 is a test standard that sets out the requirements for fire-resistant storage cabinets for lithium-ion batteries.

 

1. Which testing standards does the Premium cabinet comply with?

The cupboard complies with the standard VDMA 24994 checked. It offers a certified fire resistance of > 90 minutes from the outside in and provides reliable protection against a Thermal Runaway from the inside.

2. How does the system respond if a fire is detected indoors?

When the built-in smoke alarm is triggered, a visual and audible alarm is activated. At the same time, the cabinet’s power supply and mechanical ventilation are switched off completely. The signal can be forwarded to a control centre via a potential-free contact. In addition, the cable is pre-wired for connection to a building-based fire alarm system.

3. What electrical power ratings and charging options does the premium model offer?

The cabinet is powered by a supply voltage of 400 V (3-phase, 3 x 16 A) and has a maximum total electrical power of 10.5 kW. Each of the height-adjustable shelves can be fitted with a power strip (each with 10 earth-connected sockets and a maximum of 3.5 kW per strip). An integrated surge protector provides additional protection.

Premium Battery Cabinet: Certified fire protection in accordance with VDMA 24994

Lithium-ion batteries have become an integral part of our everyday lives. Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are being used in an ever-increasing number of products and devices, not only in the private sector but also, in particular, in trades and industrial settings, such as in a wide range of power tools or mobile machinery. However, these high-performance rechargeable batteries pose significant risks if handled or stored incorrectly. A technical fault, mechanical damage or overcharging can lead to an uncontrolled fire that is very difficult to extinguish. There is still no valid legislation governing the storage of lithium-ion batteries (rechargeable batteries). Nevertheless, Li-ion rechargeable batteries should be treated as hazardous substances. Due to this high risk potential, the utmost care must be taken to ensure maximum safety when storing and charging lithium-ion batteries.

Protection features of the Premium Battery Cabinet

The LaCont Premium Battery Cabinet offers the highest level of safety for the active and passive storage of lithium-ion batteries. Wherever lithium-ion batteries are charged or stored in professional and commercial settings, standard fire protection is often no longer sufficient. This is precisely where this premium model comes in, having been specifically tested in accordance with the stringent VDMA 24994 standard. The cabinet has been designed to meet all essential protection objectives in the event of an emergency:

  • Protection of stored goods against fire from outside
  • Protection against the spread of smoke and fire in the event of a fire inside the cabinet
  • Minimising the risk to people from the possible release of gases that burn explosively or are toxic from the cabinet
  • Protection against projectiles and shrapnel
  • Signalling of critical conditions inside the safety cabinet (for people in the danger zone and emergency services) and, where applicable, control of the existing fire protection systems.

Certified battery charging cabinet: The professional model

The integrated system in the Premium battery cabinet prevents a Thermal Runaway spreads out into the surrounding area. This is an uncontrollable chemical chain reaction within the battery cell. Triggered by causes such as overheating during charging, incorrect chargers, overcharging, deep discharge, high ambient temperatures or mechanical damage, the internal temperature rises rapidly. As a result, the battery catches fire, releases toxic gases or, in the worst-case scenario, explodes.

Even when batteries with a total charge capacity of up to 8.0 kWh catch fire, neither flames nor shrapnel escape from the cabinet in the premium model. The cabinet therefore offers maximum reliability in day-to-day commercial use. Internationally recognised, certified protection is also provided by the ECB•S Security Certificate.

The VDMA Standard Sheet 24994 is a test standard that defines the requirements for fire-resistant storage cabinets for lithium-ion batteries. Classification: „I“ denotes a cabinet that is resistant to Thermal Runaway has been tested from the inside, and „O“ stands for a cupboard that has been tested for fire resistance from the outside (e.g. O 90 = fire resistance > 90 minutes from the outside).
